Celebrate National Farm to School Month this October! Join the Pennsylvania Farm to School Network and thousands of schools, early care and education sites, farms, communities and organizations across the country as we celebrate food education, school gardens and lunch trays filled with healthy, local ingredients. “Farm to school” includes serving local food to kids in school settings, educational experiences about food and agriculture – including farm tours and taste tests – and school garden activities. If your community already engages in these activities, October is a perfect time to promote and celebrate!

Participate in statewide celebrations, like Apple Crunch Day on October 20, purchase PA Preferred® produce and celebrate a PA Preferred Day, or participate in the Pennsylvania Harvest of the Month program. Check out these resources and promotional materials:

Interested in having your farm to school work featured on the PFSN website and newsletter? During Farm to School Month, stories from across Pennsylvania will be shared online to promote all the great work happening in our state. Submit your story here to be featured or email it to pafarmtoschool@thefoodtrust.org. Check out this example story.

Come share your Farm to School Month plans and get last-minute tips on how to celebrate at the PFSN virtual open house on Thursday, September 28, 1:30-3 p.m. ET. The first hour will include a few presentations, followed by 30 minutes of networking and open discussion time. Register to attend the virtual open house, held over Zoom, here.
